Gera Tavern
In 1896, a Mr. John Beyer was the first bookkeeper of a stock company turned creamery in Gera after C.F. Haack bought the building and converted it. Farmers brought milk to the creamery to sell and instead of paying them cash, Geyer had an arrangement with the Gera General Store to issue the farmer a certificate or “order” for the milk. Farmers would take the “order” to the General Store and exchange it for merchandise. At the end of each month Mr. Geyer would pay the General Store. Milk sold by the farmers to the creamery was separated and the cream churned into butter. Butter was packed into 50 or 6 pound wooden tubs and shipped by express to eastern markets. The creamery changed hands several times and eventually was bought by John Roger. In 1933, Mr. Roger’s son Herbert converted the creamery into a tavern operated eventually by son Howard Rogner. The Tavern then changed hands to the Melcher family, then the Randall family and finally to John and Sonny Minar. In 2023, Phil Martin, Brent Lynch, Kyle Bierlein and Craig Bierlein purchased Gera Tavern from Sonny Minar. Since then, a full kitchen has been added and Gera Tavern now operates as a bar and restaurant!
